Claudia Valencia

I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, where faith was a part of my upbringing. From an early age, I was taught about God and His love, but my heart had never fully learned to trust Him with every part of my life.

I believed I knew what was best for my life. I walked away from the church at 18 because I wanted to make my own decisions, follow my own plans, and live life on my own terms. I thought freedom meant living without God, but I would eventually learn that true freedom is only found in Him.

By the age of 23, I was a single mother raising three boys on my own. Life was filled with struggles, and many days I wondered how I would make it through. Later, God blessed me with a loving husband, and together we welcomed three more beautiful children into our family. Yet even with all those blessings, I was living far from Jesus.

In 2011, everything changed. I was diagnosed with cancer. Lying in that hospital bed, all I could think about were my children. The thought of not being there to watch them grow up, to hold them, to love them, broke my heart.

In my darkest moment, I remembered my first love.

With tears running down my face, I cried out to Jesus. I asked Him to forgive me for walking away and surrendered my life completely into His hands.

I didn't ask Him to heal me. I asked Him for His peace.

If my children had to grow up without their mother, I trusted that my Heavenly Father would hold them when I no longer could. That thought still brings tears to my eyes. Yet in that hospital room, God gave me a peace that was greater than my fear.

Today, my life belongs completely to Jesus Christ. By His grace, I am cancer-free, healed by His stripes, and serving the One who gave everything for me. The same God I walked away from at 18 was the God who welcomed me back with open arms when I called upon Him. He restored my heart, renewed my faith, and gave my life a purpose greater than I could have ever imagined. He is the Author and Finisher of my life, and I am forever blessed and grateful to be living proof of His mercy, His faithfulness, and His unfailing love.
